Fish Vendor and Man with Rooster

Fish Vendor and Man with Rooster
19″ x 25″ Pastel on Paper

Today is my dad’s birthday and I gave this drawing to him. Back in the Philippines, my grandmother was a fish vendor and my grandfather
loved roosters so I just thought this subject would be a good gift.

I’m sure my parents were hoping again I would draw more realistically.
They always tell me I do not draw pretty faces and do not know how to draw hands :-)

I also posted the step by step drawing process… please continue on…

a true fil. concept art. I like it, but my lil’ compliment here….. just what I’ve notice is the inconsistency of global highlight from top light source. I’m not really good in raytracing but that’s my solution when working with highlights and shadows in oil painting. :)

glad i just found your site through illo friday. i like your luminous pastels, and also your brooding black & white drawings – haven’t fully explored it all yet, looking forward to more.

I didn’t notice the lighting at first, but once it was pointed out, I could see what Jolo meant. I love the composition of this piece though and the way you’ve made their hands such a focus: this helps to tell the story of people who work hard everyday to make their living. Well done, and thankyou for sharing the step by step process.

This pastel painting is fantastic!! I’d have to disagree with your parents. The way you draw and work out a painting is very expressive. Its much more captivating this way. I could see a million faces and hands all done to scale and perfectly and not be moved one bit. But yours…OMG! It reminds me some of Chagall..some of other well known artists. Excellant job!!
