Updated (6/3/2005): I submitted this for Illustration Friday’s theme “Digital”. I work as a programmer from 9 to 5 in my job, so career-wise my life revolves around a “digital world”.

Just trying to capture the essence of Monday morning at work…

I know there was a reason I wanted to become a programmer… if only I could remember what it was. – Creating a Passionate… You.

Reading Kathy’s post made me reflect on my current “work attitude”. Also, it made me remember when I was working as a PowerBuilder developer (just a technology that I really hate), that there was not a moment that I wished I was coding in Java.

The worst moment came when I was working as a consultant fixing applications written in PowerBuilder in a big pharmaceutical company here in Indy… Yeah maintenance job. As always, there was this weird thing between being consultants and those regular employees of the company. One employee commented that I should be glad there were still obsolete PowerBuilder applications because that kept me employed. OK f*cker shut up! …

Of course I did not say that. But the fact that I was a PowerBuilder consultant there, sadly, I thought in a way that arrogant comment was true. How I hated that job did not make any difference. I begged the consulting company to give me Java development assignments but always told Java jobs were competitive and I was not qualified.

It was not easy to finally break into the Java world. Now if I could always remember those PowerBuilder days, I should never be grumpy again with my current work. But as said in the referenced post, it is not always easy. The Java motivation alone seems to be not working to fuel my passion to what I do… Somehow it is really important to care about users’ needs and implement efficient systems that satisfy those needs <--- the real reason why am I doing what I do now.

My entry for this week’s Illustration Friday.I almost did not submit an entry this week because of the difficulty to come up with a concept for “Jazz”, the topic this week. I googled “jazz” and made studies before I could come up with this drawing.

friday illustration: sorrow

I found Friday Illustration today and entered this previous drawing to participate in this week’s topic “sorrow”. I created this drawing just now as another entry for the site.

Illustration Friday is meant to challenge participants creatively… It’s a chance to experiment and explore and play with visual art. – from Illustration Friday’s welcome page.

I tried to do this thing, but it only lasted about a week :-) With Illustration Friday, there is a particular topic and only one drawing a week.
