I was not able to force the kids to come with me in IMA today, so I went by myself and sketch in the African Art gallery. I was almost tempted to just take pictures and sketch at home but decided to draw on the spot in the gallery.

Mario Parial unveils photography-based works at Kaida Gallery

Visual artist Mario Parial revisits earlier forays into photography and renews his engagement with photography-based works in “The Peripatetic Process of Parial’s Painted Photographs“, a one-man exhibition of recent works at Kaida Gallery from 26 April to 13 May 2009, in cooperation with Galerie Joaquin.

The show presents a collection of 50 painted photographs by the artist, taken using an various 35mm analogue film cameras dating from the 1930s to the 1950s and mounted with vintage lenses.

In this exhibition, Parial captures local urban scenes on film and elevates these into exquisite vignettes of contemporary realities. Parial combines the precise qualities of photography with a painter’s highly-developed sense of composition, form, and texture. The artist shoots black and white photographs then alters and enhances these through painting and collage, imbuing the images with depth and color.

The Peripatetic Process of Parial’s Painted Photographs /will open on April 26 2009, Sunday, 6 p.m., at Kaida Gallery, located at the 2nd Floor, GFO Building, 122 Kamuning Road, Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines 1102.

The show runs until 13 May 2009 . It will be later on moved to the Fra Angelico Gallerie of the University of Santo Tomas College of Fine Arts and to the University of the Philippines Theater (Lobby) in June and August 2009, respectively.

For inquiries about the exhibition, please call (632) 4144777 or write to info@kaidagallery.com.
