Pinoy Witch

Pencil on paper

Filipino version of a witch ('mangkukulam'). Growing up in the Philippines where you heard adults tell stories about them... this thing scared the hell out of me.

But I do not think Filipino witches use a couldron for spells, I just put that for effect... she's probably just cooking rice in there (haha). A Filipino witch could definitely pass as a Death Eater, imagine that a pinoy in Harry Potter :-)

Anyways, Penelope is currently having a "Draw a Witch" halloween contest. I do not think I'm going to submit this but I still want to explore this rich part of Philippine culture, like what Jio posted here... (tikbalang, kapre, aswang, duende) - Philippine mythological monsters and creatures.

There is a Mexican legend of a witch/woman called La Llorona who frightens children, too. I think all cultures have their version. This is a very bewitching drawing.

Ay, sus! Kaganda namang mangkukulam nito, I almost wished I am one! So different from the mangkukulam stereotype of an old hag!
