Crowded and Noisy World

24" x 30" Acrylic on Canvas

I joined the Masterpiece in a Day competition yesterday. This piece did not win but I had a great time and learned a lot I think from the event. This is the first time I finished a relatively large work (24" x 30") in a limited amount of time (6 hrs , 9am - 3pm).

We worked in an empty office building, we were suppose to paint outside but it was raining... but definitely I need to bring an easel next time...

update 03/15/2006: Thanks for the spotlight.

I have some recent thoughts on this... Though in IMT they titled the challenge "Sense-Less" - create a piece using only minimal senses(see, touch, hear, taste and smell), I think all finished works will always make sense. "Sense-Less" should only apply to the process and not to the resulting piece itself.

I was suppose to buy a xmas card but I painted this instead. This is just a quick painting. I felt crappy to do any drawing and painting the whole week, this time I did not force myself to do anything; I just relaxed, watched TV and slept early :-) Anyways, this will go directly inside an envelope and will be mailed tomorrow...

I am so busy right now preparing for an art fair this Saturday (Yep... the one Penelope is promoting). This is the first time I'm going to show my work physically in public... so I'm so worried how this thing will go about.

More on the art fair later...

Sidenote 2: I submitted this for Illustration Friday's theme depth. Has nothing to do with depth really... except the path creates some kind of depth... :-)

Sidenote: Last week I entered this and this for the Katrina Relief Auction starting bid of $25... Ouch! I did not get any bid :-(

Makes me ever so happy to be coding for a living... :-)

I made this for my sister Diana who graduated from ND this year.

She evacuated back to Indy last week; she was one of the lucky ones who were able to get out of New Orleans early from Katrina.

She's a teacher and going back to New Orleans area tomorrow... Classes in her school will resume this Monday.

Take care Sis!

sidenote: Of course Donna ( another sister sophomore in ND. ) I will also create one for you :-)

Kubo

August 4, 2005 12:15 AM | posted to acrylic | permalink | comments (0)

30" x 36" Acryllic on Canvas

I finished this couple weeks ago. It is already hanging in my parents house. I tried to find the reference photo that I used to draw the "Kubo" (hut), searched for it all over, I could not find any photo of it anymore.

This was actually a real "Kubo" when I was growing up in the Philippines, exactly the way it looks in the painting. There was a "papag" (bamboo bed) in the back where I used to take a nap in the afternoon and read 'komiks'. We had lots of native fruit plants in the lot - kalamansi, bayabas, manggo, duhat, guyabano, langka, and papaya.

The kubo was torn down long time ago, no more plants in the lot, even my uncle who designed the kubo already passed away.

Painting I did way back in 1998, scanned from a photo I found last night. It was a chrismas gift for a ralative who was a farmer... he already passed away. I wonder where is this painting at now ... and any possibility of having it back.
