The dignity of the artist lies in his duty of keeping awake the sense of wonder in the world. In this long vigil he often has to vary his methods of stimulation; but in this long vigil he is also himself striving against a continual tendency to sleep. - Marc Chagall

Mixed Media on Moleskine
For I-Fri theme this week... "Angels and Devils".
I also submitted this to IMT... "Journaling".
I use Moleskines as my journal. I started drawing on them just about a year ago and I'm close to finishing on my second book. (You can see entries on book 1 and book 2 at Flickr.)
I read some users reserve their Moleskine as a special sketchbook, only the best drawings go in there or some are scared to use it for the fear of ruining it. I was like that at first and did not think I could keep making entries on them. But now my Moleskines are no special, I draw on them whatever I want, or trying different media techniques... whether my drawing suck or not... I just move on.

I just worked on the idea like whenever you looked at old pictures of you most likely you're a lot thinner then...

I found Inspire Me Thrusday today... This is for the challenge "Self-Portraits... Without A Camera".
This is the first time I tried doing a self portraint again... Back in October 2005, I posted about "90's Self Portraits" and my old drawings in the gallery.

I'd like to take studio figure drawing sessions again but there's just no convenient schedule... so this is the next best thing to study forms... copy from any source... web, books (like this one), newspapers, magazines, other paintings. Time to study again...

Gouache on Moleskine
Just trying out something different. It did not scan properly though, the purple foreground is too light, it should be much darker under the figure...
Random Sidenotes:
- I'm continuing to develop the new CMS for this site that would allow me to post different types of blog entries i.e. remaindered links like in Kottke and Markku, another type is image blog entries and couple more; but instead of just a hack that fit these to subject + text blog entry, these different blog types are actually built-in to the data model (more on this later). I am also probably going to set up a technical/software/web design blog, the original objectives of this site anyways - my own development workspace in the web.
- Digg v.s. SlashDot - If you're not aware, there's a battle of "geeks' playground" going on. Who's going to win? Personally I really prefer Digg, it is just intuitive and easy to use. How is this become a battle ?... just look in here and you'll see they are even tracking scores. This thing is serious (to geeks at least) :-)
- Live@USA.PH. Cool podcast of two guys, one is in New York and the other is in Manila, about food, web and the Philippine culture and soceity. They are really doing a good job linking US and Philippines thru each of their own perspectives. Another reason why I like them, you see they are old buddies from high school, and for a long time I wanted to create a collaborative project with my old high school friends for a similar project like this, not necessarily podcasting, but any project. I even created a blog for my old schoolmates but it did not turn out so well. :-)
