200 million people have already stopped writing their blogs... - Blogging 'set to peak next year' (BBC News)

In a couple of months I'll complete my third year of blogging... but I'm not so sure if I'm still going to be here in throughout my forth year..., as the 200 milliion people already found out, blogging is hard, tedious and most of the time not fun.

To sum up 2006 in one post, here are sample of works in each medium that I explored...

Love Song
"Love Song" (pen and ink) posted February 2006

First Rubbercut on Moleskine
First try on printmaking (rubbercut)... posted March 2006

Grasshopper
Grasshopper (pencil) posted posted March 2006

Untitled
Water color study posted April 2006

Figures - 12
"Figures Series" (pastel) posted April 2006 also in the gallery.

Octopus
"Octopus" (mixed-media) posted May 2006. I do not specifically like this subject but I discovered to like mixing colored pencils and gouache...

Crowded and Noisy World
I joined the Materpiece a Day... "Crowded and Noisy World" (acrylic) posted September 2006.

Indy Fall
posted October 2006. For some reason by August 2006, I started to post lots on photography...

When I started blogging, I read "10 Tips on Writing the Living Web" @ A List Apart. The article is almost 5 years old now but I still think it is one of the best post ever written on blogging. Hopefully ,I will always "find a reason" to blog, and however insignificant this blog out of the 100 million bloggers left in 2007, I will still be able to blog "passionately about things that matter" to a few.

Alex

One of the highlight of my vacation in the Philippines was meeting again a good friend who I have not seen for about 15 years. I previously asked other people I know for his info but unable to get contact numbers from them. One afternoon I asked my cousin to accompany me to go to his house; we rode on a scooter. All I could remember was his house was behind a small chapel in Pulong Buhangin, Sta Maria, Bulacan next to the town I was staying.

It was nice to meet him again and I was so glad to know he is doing very well. This February he is going back to Aruba for a contract work.

Good to keep in touch with you again my friend!

There are Still Rice Fields Left

December 29, 2005 1:41 PM | posted to personal | permalink | comments (4)

I went to the ricefields this morning and was able to shoot pictures using my Nikon F3. I will not be able to post the pictures until I develop the film when I get back in Indy. I was glad to see there are still ricefields left in my hometown. I was able to chat with the farmers there working while I shoot. I ruined my shoes because it was all covered with mud but I think it was worth it. I plan to go back there before our trip is over to shoot in digital.

Art Fair

art fair

Here were my works out in public!

I had a great experience in the art fair yesterday.

It was really not about the money or selling stuff... What truly made it a great experience were I met people personally who came in my booth, took time to look and appreciated my work. If I was doing this just to sell, it was not worth it with all the work I had to do to prepare for the fair (I'm so glad I do not do this for a living and so appreciate even better my morning job...)

The whole week I worked so hard trying to be ready, finishing up few pieces, cutting up matting for my works, buying frames, and figuring out how the heck I was going to set up my booth. By noon time, I was ready to quit and saying to myself what was I thinking trying to join an event like this. But it got better in the afternoon when people started to come in.

Here were the pieces I sold: watercolor on paper and this drawing to Mike; this drawing to Barb. This piece was bought by an artist Charlie Spear. We were starting to put out my works already when a couple I talked to earlier went back and wanted to purchase this - they were artists and the owner of Galerie Penumbra. I will always treasure the comments I got from other artists who came in and appreciated my works.

Sidenote: Sara - I really want you to have this, so just email me. :-)

Anybody else "gluehands aficionados" out there?

updated 5/9/2005: Was not able to finish this one... again.

I can't even remember the last time I completed an acryllic painting; it was a long time ago since I used the medium. I am just happy to be productive painting and drawing again.

It is just nice to have an activity not related to software; I am so burned out with development stuff.

Nothing is more appropriate...

I just cannot go to sleep without making this entry.

It is about 16 days ago when I made my last post, right now, nothing is more appropriate for me to reflect upon than my last post(#54).

Suddenly I just feel the urge to do something creative: to paint, to write, to code, anything. This is exactly the "inspiration...the darkside" I am talking about in my previous post.

Okey I've been lying for a long time with my last post...

I thought changes would be just so easy, but not quite. I just came off from vacation to Canada (great trip!).

Pretty much it is summer, I've been enjoying outside life more so less time in front of the computer.

Happy Birthday Joma!!!

My son Joma is 4 years old today! Pacers lost the Game at Miami last night. Since there will be Game 5 here, I am gonna go walk to Fieldhouse box office at lunch time and see if I could get tickets for the game this Saturday. Joma loves going to the Fieldhouse and (of course) the Pacers :-)

Summer Memories...

April 8, 2004 4:08 PM | posted to personal | permalink | comments (0)

Good friday... no work for me tomorrow. Growing up in the Phlippines, around this season was the most memorable to me... summer time without school for two months. I have been away from the Philippines for more than 12 years now. I just miss the sights, sounds and sweat of summer over there. I did not mind the heat because I grew up playing outside even if it was so hot. Not that I was an active kid in my teens into playing basketball or any sport. Nope, I mostly enjoyed sitting on the street corner in our small barrio; just sit there, watched people passed by. Within our small barrio is a cemetery. Sometimes there were funerals going on almost everyday, so sitting in that corner was not thay boring at all :-) That cemetery served too as our playground and place to rest under a big, century old acacia tree. I was very lucky too to experience playing on rice fields which are non existent now because most of them are paved with cement, with roads and houses. The fields were all dried up, with just stalks from harvested rice, perfect place to fly kites late in the afternoon as the sun set in the horizon.

After 15 years...

As I mentioned in my previous post, I was able to connect with my high school classmates back in the Philippines. Yesterday was 15 years after we graduated high school, March 15,1998. I was a unique experience since we set up an online chat session last weekend. There were groups who had their reunions near their specific location: one in Disneyland, California; one in Bocaue Philippines; one in Toronto Canada and another in Manila Philippines. Then at 11 pm Indiana time, we decided to chat online. It was so much fun to get in touch with them again. Of course I am the only one here in Indiana, so lucky for me we went online. I guess what is amazing is lots of people in our group actually are very enthusiatic to participate, get in touch, and reminisce our high school days. There were lots of things happened in those 15 years, college, and years after college; we are living different lives now, but still it seems we are more connected in a way... *Current blogger count in Campus Figures Site is 81.

Weekend...

March 12, 2004 3:05 PM | posted to personal | permalink | comments (0)

My son Koji is three years old this Sunday! We are going to have a small party Saturday night. Last Friday it was 60 deg F, today back to 30's winter temperature!... typical Indiana weather... Coding stuff... I am trying to learn Struts and convert all my webapps to use the framework. I was able to develop lots of webapps using my own hacking techniques. They all function as intended and I can deploy them in a short time. But the problem is I'm not sure if I'm using the best practices out there... On my personal projects, the more I develop all these webapps, the more I see them difficult to maintain in the long run. So I am hitting the books again... then redesign the server-side components of these sites...

Friday... I am about to go home in 30 minutes. A little windy but it is currently 60 deg F outside. We might be able to go outside this weekend if the warm temperature holds up. The boys will be so excited to play in the open air again....

Welcome to my own personal web site. Firstly, why create a web log? I've been wanting to improve my writing, so what a better way than to write anything you want, when you have the urge. I will also include in the gallery creative works(photography, painting, drawings) I have been doing outside software development. Hopefully, I will find the discipline to post and update this often.
