I got a Praktica Luxmedia 5008 digital camera as a gift (thanks!); the following series of post are test shots from this camera.
Using it the first time was a bit of a challenge because I like the full control of an all manual vintage SLR's and all manual features Panasonic LX-1. This camera has only two aperture settings and only auto focus capabilities - totally point and shoot... but despite the limitations, it is still an awesome camera especially the high quality lens - it has that German made character.

The kids had fun at the "Big Slide" yesterday...(same Big Slide I previously posted here...)
This is the first time I did not forget to remove the lens cap when shooting, and I also did I pretty good job "counting the clicks"; when using 35mm on Holga, you have to count the clicks as you turn the advance film dial. I also use enough tape to cover the red spot as seen here (yes, tape to cover the light leaks...)
But with being so low tech, Holgas are so much fun to use. Over exposed... under exposed... out of focus... heck I'm just thankful there were viewable images that came out of this thing :-)

As I posted previously, these pictures are my first attempt on street photography. All pictures were taken during my lunch break, roaming around downtown Indy.
Technical Details
I used my Nikon F3 with 28-105mm zoom lens, Kodak 400CN film and waist level viewfinder - allows me to shoot upclose shots with subjects unaware, making it more natural. I used hand-held light meter to get an approximate exposure. Focusing was still a challenge using the waist level viewfinder...
A note on post-processing...I'm still studying and researching digital darkroom techniques - especially how much post processing is too much before a photograph becomes "digital art" and not photography. Apparently, just Googling around, you'll find everybody is still in disagreement on what to do or not to do.
One of the answers that made sense to me so far was posted at Philip Gou's site and to quote:
... any modifications made on the computer must be reasonable and plausible using conventional film photography techniques.
So as to my current post processing work flow... for shooting film, I scan the negatives with all the my scanner adjustments tuned off - equivalent of shooting raw on a digital camera I guess. Then I go to Photoshop... cropping only if needed, adjust levels (usually I'm done at this point), or curves, maybe contrast. I do not use any other tools except to clean up dust from scanning or from film developing. Last part of the process would be resizing and sharpening.

Sidenote:
I took all the camera images by myself with my digital camera (Panasonic LX-1). I'm actually kinda happy how these shots turned out because I always wondered how do I take these kind of pictures - with all white background.
I'm sure there are better tutorial out there but here's the technical details:
Setup:
The light source was set up behind the object, the object on a white sheet of paper and mount the camera on a tripod.
Exposure:
I suppose the right way to do this is you take the meter reading on the object so the background will burn out. But since I was using a digital camera (and really did not know what I was doing), I just used trial and error and ended up setting to the minimum aperture of my camera f/8 and speed around 3-4 seconds (ISO 80).

I took this pictures last Sunday at Crown Hill Cemetery. On top of the hill, "the highest natural point here in Indy", is where James Whitcomb Riley is buried. There are lots of other famous graves here including Benjamin Harrison, a former President of the United States and John Dillinger, (infamous) bank robber.
This was really the first time I roamed around here fully and definitely would try to go back - one early morning or in the fall.
This website would probably be like Sidney's "Sari-Sari Store" in a few days until I finally set up a seperate photo blog...

Rural scenes from my hometown... This is where I flew kite during summer when I was growing up. Not much ricefields left... but at least the same sunset I watched when I was a kid still exist.

Bocaue, Bulacan Rural Scenes - Tinapa (Smoked Fish) Factory
Just walking distance from where I was staying when I was in the Philippines. My friend Mel accompanied me here the first time and I took pictures using 35mm B/W film (which I have not developed yet). I just went back again and shoot in color using Sony S60 digicam.

January is always so cold and gray... Seems like spring is a long way off... . The cold harsh gray winter. Winds blowing. Chapped faces. Bare trees. - Penelope's January 26, 2006 Entry
Actually this is one of the best January we have here in Indy, at least it is not freezing, white and wet. I had an opportunity to take these pictures just this weekend. And one of the best thing about photography, now I am looking forward to spending time outiside... even in cold, gray and dry gloomy weather.

Random objects from the Philippines. It was amazing to see common day to day objects so interesting when I was there.
I actually had a hard time adjusting to the cold and gray Indy after our vacation.

Inspired by Sidney's "My Sari-Sari Store". I never thought I would be able to do street photography because I always have difficulty to ask strangers if I could take their pictures. But the vendors at Antipolo church were so nice and friendly. Also this is when having a digital camera was an absolute advantage because I could show the pictures right after I took them.
