Leica IIIc (released 1940). My own camera, bought cheap but the rangefinder is not working and slow speeds are inconsistent. Pictures from this camera...

Oldenburg, Indiana

Many travel destinations beg our attention, our dollars and a chunk of our time; occasionally offering more kitsch than culture. Not so, however, in the tiny village of Oldenburg, Indiana, (pop. 900) where tourism is low key but welcomed; offering visitors a chance to stretch their legs - for an hour's stroll or longer during festival season - amidst a bounty of genuine German culture. Called "The Village of Spires" for the magnificent steeples that jut out of a rural landscape, Oldenburg is located in Southeastern, Indiana - off Interstate I-74, about half-way between Indianapolis, Indiana and Cincinnati, Ohio- in the region known as the Ohio River Valley. Just three miles off exit #149, after passing through a smattering of modern ranch houses, here, when reaching the crest of the hill, one can see in the distance, the glorious spires - reminiscent of those that mark villages throughout Germany. And the resemblance is no coincidence; for the village sprang from the pioneering efforts of German Catholic immigrants.

I have an opportunity to test drive a Leica IIf rangefinder. Funny how I started off in photography using Nikon F3 - a 1980's camera, then Pentax Spotmatic SP2 from the 1970's, then Leicaflex SL from the 1960's, finally a rangefinder camera from the 1950's - hi- tech in reverse :-)

These were taken on another Indianapolis Cultural District...the Canal and White River State Park. The only way to see these reflections is during early morning within an hour after sunrise. I work in this area and need to be at my desk by 8 am - so I came to work early and was already shooting around 6:45 AM; being a night owl, this was so hard.

I have been building a collection of m42 Carl Zeiss lenses and I was so eager to own this "legendary" 20mm/F2.8 Flektogon; the reason I even sold my whole Nikon equipment. However, I have to agree so far on what they've said, about this lens on being "hyped and way too soft".

Having said that, I really like how the first picture turned out. It has the same character when I first used this lens. Bottom line, it is really my own fault why the pictures do not come out nice. I probably have not used it in a better light, or not focused correctly; I cannot really put blame on the lens or any equipment.

135mm Sonnar Pentax Spotmatic with Kodak 100UC Film

I read based on this Bokeh Test that Carl Zeiss Sonnar 135/F3.4 came out to be the "most pleasing"...

The inexpensive Zeiss Jena Sonnars provide a lot of bokeh quality for the buck. - Bokeh Test

The more I use my Sonnar the more I agree with that conclusion... I love the effect of this lens. I do not do much post processing except adjust the "levels" so all the bokeh comes from the lens...
