It is tough to shoot here these days, too cold, too gray and I dropped once my light meter and now it is busted.
So digging in the archives, I found these previously un-scanned photos from December 2005, Bocaue, Bulacan, Philippines.

I was with the boys one time at IMA to see the chairs exhibit and checked out the free art studio there. The staff gave them pens and pieces of cardboards to draw anything they wanted; the cardboards would be used to build the installation piece in the gallery. A staff asked me if I wanted to draw also, so I drew an eye.
I was surprised to see "The Eye" on top when we went back later... :-)

It was a tough lighting condition. I decided to push the film @ 1600 to get more speed latitude but that increased the contrast of the shots. I was mostly shooting at 1/8 sec, f/5.6 .

All taken with available light... one of the strengths of using a rangefinder is being able to shoot unobtrusively. In this particular scene, having a big camera or using a flash would be too bothersome to the riders and horses. With my M2 being small and quiet, I was able to blend in...

Mario Parial is featured in PhilStar's Sunday Life "A gentleman of the old school".
Quotes from the master:
Vintage cameras are like cars. Each one has a story. Where it was made, who made it, what was going on in the world at the time it was made. There's a whole interesting history to each one.
What I enjoy most about photography is the human involvement. It's a medium of artistic expression of the one taking the photos - the composition and the choice of subject, combined with the event.
I'm always grateful to MVAP for introducing me to photography and of course, the influence to go old school. I was already satisfied with my Pentax and M42 lenses, and also was about to buy K10D, but when he let me borrowed the Leicaflex and Summilux, that was it, I was hooked. :-)

To put Manny's accomplishment into perspective, he has beaten these legend Mexican fighters and probably ALL are first time ballot Hall of Famers...

I could not wait so I left work early to see the show "On the Road Again " exhibit at IMA today.
Below was an interesting article from IndyStar about the lady in the picture "Indianapolis" by Robert Frank. They have identified her but she had no idea about the picture.
To best describe the pictures of Robert Frank, here is a quote from Elliot Erwit
Quality doesn't mean deep blacks and whatever tonal range. That's not quality, that's a kind of quality. The pictures of Robert Frank might strike someone as being sloppy--the tone range isn't right and things like that--but they're far superior to the pictures of Ansel Adams with regard to quality, because the quality of Ansel Adams, if I may say so, is essentially the quality of a postcard. But the quality of Robert Frank is a quality that has something to do with what he's doing, what his mind is. It's not balancing out the sky to the sand and so forth. It's got to do with intention. - Elliott Erwitt

Technical Info
Taking a break from Leicas, I took the Pentax Spotmatic (with Flektogon 35mm) out on the street. I was using Neopan 400 and pushed it to 1600, basically to expose the shots with faster speeds. I developed the film using HC-110 (solution B) for 12 mins. , 20°C.

Interesting links I found recently on street photography:
Garry Winogrand Video . The master himself. I knew that when he passed away he left around 2500 undeveloped rolls(!) of films, but still, it was so awesome to see when he pulled out all those films in plastic bags. It was also good to see him in action with his Leica M4 :-)
Class Time with Garry Winogrand. An account of what it is like to be in his class when he was teaching at University of Texas (20 pages, pdf file).
On the Road Again with Jack Kerouac and Robert Frank. An exhibit at IMA, included are the 83 photographs by Robert Frank in his most important work "The Americans", you can view the photos here. I can't wait for the opening on June 26.

Leicaflex, 35mm Summicron, T-Max 100
The SLR was finally used again after long hibernation.
Some of my photography learning notes:
Thoughts on using manual SLR again. I fixed the camera speed at 1/125 sec, this was the slowest I could take the shot without being too blurry. I was using a small hand-held incident meter now instead of relying on the reflective meter of the camera. The light meter was showing F5.6 @ 1/125sec so that means I had only shallow depth of field to work with; not my favorite settings on the street because I had to stop and focus before I took the shot.
SLR vs Rangefinder. In contrast using a rangefinder, I normally fixed the lens at F16, because I knew I could take the shot as slow as 1/40sec; at F16, anything from 10 feet to infinity would be in focus.
Push and pull processing. I've been reading about push and pull processing. Tri-X 400 film can be pushed @ EI3200. "EI" means exposure index, it is the exposure(lens apperture and camera speed) that you used to shoot the film. If you shot an ISO 400 film using ISO 200 light meter readings, you can then "pull" the processing to compensate the exposure index you used. However, if you shot an ISO 400 film using ISO 1600 or ISO 3200, you can then "push" the processing (use longer development times) than the actual ISO 400 development times recommendations.
Trying SLR with Tri-X 400 @ EI1600. The SLR camera currently has Tri-X 400 loaded and I've been exposing the film using ISO 1600 readings. At these settings, I could now use the SLR the same way I use the rangefinder... Not sure about the results until I develop the film...
